Welcome to Xstrata Mount Isa Mines

Xstrata Mount Isa Mines operates two separate mining and processing streams, copper and zinc-lead-silver. Together the company’s mines form one of the largest underground mining operations in the world, and employ more than 5,700employees and contractors.

In 2010 our operations contributed almost $2 billion to the Queensland economy through wages, apprenticeship and youth training, purchase of regional goods and services, council rates, corporate social involvement (CSI) contributions, utility charges and government taxes and charges.

The mine has been in operation since January 1924 and is led today by Steve de Kruijff, Chief Operating Officer Xstrata Copper North Queensland, and Brian Hearne, Chief Operating Officer Xstrata Zinc Australia.

Xstrata Mount Isa Mines supports local businesses by consciously sourcing goods and services from local suppliers wherever possible. We strive to preserve the long term health, function and viability of the natural environments affected by our operations and to maintain safe and healthy workplaces based on mutual respect, fairness and integrity.
