Mount Isa Mines is home to the largest source of zinc in concentrate of all Glencore's zinc mining operations. In fact, we are one of the largest zinc mines in the world with an estimated 650 million tonnes of resources (measured, indicated and inferred; as at December 2011).
Our zinc assets in and around Mount Isa consist of the George Fisher underground mine, which has the capacity to produce 4.5 million tonnes of ore per annum and the Lady Loretta underground mine, which is temporarily suspended in response to current market conditions.
We also operate a zinc-lead concentrator and filter plant, a lead smelter and supporting services. Our processing stream treats ore from all our regional mines to produce both zinc and lead concentrate and lead bullion. The products are transported by rail to our port operations in Townsville for export.
We provide jobs for more than 1,200 employees and contractors.
