ttlgs0002639-0645.jpgMount Isa Mines is one of the largest and most complex mining operations in the world, comprising underground and open cut mines, mineral processing and smelting operations, power generation and auxiliary and administrative services running 24-hours a day, seven days a week. And all of this on the doorstep of a thriving community of 22,000 people.

We believe that all incidents are preventable. Given the complexity of our operations, we remain vigilant about identifying and managing risks. We invest heavily in the selection, training and development of our people to ensure they have the skills they need to identify hazards and take appropriate action to control these in their workplaces. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

We have robust systems in place and subject these to internal and external audits to ensure they are effective, efficient and provide us with improvement opportunities that consider the best possible technologies.

The health and wellbeing of our employees is equally as important, and promoting positive lifestyle outcomes for our people is an integral part of the way we do business. We give our people unrivalled access to assistance programs to ensure they are fit for work and functional for life.

We track safety and health performance using three key metrics, Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), Disabling Injury Severity Rate (DISR) and the Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR). These performance measures show the number of events per million hours worked, and since 2003 we have seen significant improvement across all these metrics.
