A key element of our approach is to ensure we give back to our host communities. We do this by providing jobs, skills, and training, paying taxes and royalties, buying goods and services from local businesses, supporting community development programs and investing in local infrastructure. In this way, we play an important role in improving local health, education, employment and living standards and we work with local governments, community groups and other stakeholders to share these benefits in a way that is sustainable and beneficial over the long term.
Every year, we contribute to the socio-economic health of Mount Isa, the state of Queensland and Australia by providing jobs for more than 3,200 people and around $1 billion to the Queensland economy through wages, training, goods and services, taxes, charges and royalties.
For community development programs alone, since 2004 we have contributed more than $35 million to our north Queensland communities, supporting a broad range of initiatives, infrastructure projects, and a range of annual events to help our communities thrive.
