Confidential Counselling - Help is only a text away!

Life often has its ups and downs but did you know, as a Glencore employee, you have access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to help in times of need?

Glencore's EAP, provided by Assure Programs, is a work-based program provided to assist employees as well as their families to help identify, clarify and resolve personal issues and overcome challenges.

Confidential counselling is provided by psychologists and counsellors who are experienced in assisting individuals with a range of concerns from managing depression, anxiety and stress to conflict resolution and managing relationship issues.

Maryann Wipaki, General Manager – Health, Safety, Environment and Community says for the first time this counselling is now offered via confidential SMS / text message in addition to existing face to face and phone services.

Individuals can now connect by texting 0439 449 876 to a qualified psychologist for private, immediate clinical support regarding their work, health or life issues, 24 hours a day.

"The SMS counselling service increases an individual's access to professional counselling delivered in real-time through everyday technology," Maryann says.

"We acknowledge there are work-related and personal day-to-day pressures and this service enables immediate support in environments where people may not be able to talk openly."

"It also allows you to access assistance discreetly and at any time of the day or night."

"It's suitable for those who are anxious about direct interaction and offers individuals the option of commencing discussions through SMS, prior to considering phone or face to face conversations," Maryann says.

"We encourage all Glencore employees to access this confidential service if they feel it could assist them."

how does the sms counselling service work?

How do I engage with the service?

You can initiate SMS counselling by sending a text message with your name, Glencore and the site you work at.

If you are a family member, provide the name of the organisation that your relation works for. You will then be presented with terms and conditions which are to be accepted prior to engaging with the psychologist.

What is the response time from sending an SMS to the service until a psychologist responds?

An automatic reply SMS is sent to the client immediately upon engaging. The psychologist will generally respond within 3-5 minutes.

Who provides the SMS counselling?

As with all Assure's counselling or coaching services, SMS counselling is provided exclusively by experienced psychologists all of who are trained in SMS counselling intervention.

Is SMS counselling available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year?

Yes, it's available by texting 0439 449 876.

Do clients have the same entitlement for SMS counselling as face to face/phone support?

Yes. This is just another form of counselling using technology. The psychologist conducting the SMS support may refer the client to our Client Support Team to assist in scheduling a follow-up face-to-face or phone sessions.
